Kobe Bryant is the Black Mamba! Directed by Robert Rodriguez
He can go in "Black Mamba" mode and drop 40 but his team won't repeat if they keep failing to show up for important games like yesterday against the Celtics.

Tankers Unite! ESPN's 2011 NBA Mock Draft Simulator is out!
In my first couple of tries, the Raptors always landed at 4, filling a positional need with Enes Kanter. I finally managed to get the 1st pick with them and they went with Kyrie Irving over Perry Jones. Not a surprise choice as Colangelo has always emphasized the need for a speedy point guard.
Highly addictive way to spend your afternoon at the office.

Weezy butthurt over LeBron and Wade
When Wayne sat court-side at a recent Miami Heat/New Orleans Hornets game he was upset that Lebron James and Dwayne Wade never came over to talk to him. "Them n*ggas never speak to a n*gga," he says. "They don't chuck me the deuce or nothing. N*gga spent all that money on them f*cking tickets ... Come holla at me. We sit right by them little b*tch-a** n*ggas. At least come ask me why I'm not rooting for you."
VIa Rolling Stone
Awwwww. Pretty sure they had more important things to worry about (ie.. the game itself) than go over and chit-chat with Mr. Wayne. And then bitching about spending all that money on them f*cking tickets. I thought y'all had money to blow?
DeRozan replaces Jennings at the 2011 Dunk Contest
VIA New York TimesThe N.B.A. will add DeMar DeRozan to the slam dunk competition, which will be held during All-Star weekend. He will assume the spot vacated by Brandon Jennings, who is returning from a fractured left foot. DeRozan’s selection is expected to be announced on Thursday.
DeRozan, a guard for the Toronto Raptors, finished second to Nate Robinson in last year’s competition. DeRozan is a native of California, and the All-Star Game will be played at Staples Center.
Jennings’s injury occurred on Dec. 15 against the Spurs. He is expected back within the next two weeks.
Blake Griffin (Clippers), JaVale McGee (Wizards) and Serge Ibaka (Thunder) are
scheduled to round out the slam-dunk participants.
When the contestants were initially announced, I was largely unimpressed with the selections and thought the contest was rigged towards Griffin's favor (not like he needs it though). Replacing Jennings with DeRozan does make it more competitive for Blake, but there is no way he loses considering that people go gaga over all of his dunks.
DeRozan needs to put on a show this year. His performance at last year's event was a disappointment.

Prokhorov says no to Melo, sets sights on Kirilenko
Ujiri and Josh Kroenke got too greedy and lost it all I think. They were already gutting the team and then got carried away trying to dump their offseason mistakes (ie.. Harrington) onto the Nets.
If the Nets fail in their bid to get Anthony, the kind of superstar Prokhorov wants playing in Brooklyn, Net fans might get to see their future small forward, anyway. The Jazz's Andrei Kirilenko is a free agent this summer and knows Prokhorov well enough that the two have dinner in Russia when Kirilenko goes home every summer. According to Nets sources, Kirilenko is on the team's radar as a potential player and front-office official.

Rafer Skips To China
Streetball legend and former NBA player Rafer Alston has found a new job in basketball, and it’s taking him overseas.
Alston’s longtime manager and close friend Eddie Lau told InsideHoops.com that the guard is traveling to China today where he will sign a contract to play for the Zhejiang Guangsha Basketball Club.
In other news, in addition to his other roles, Lau is now also Alston’s agent.
Alston began his NBA career in 1999, playing for Milwaukee. He went on to play Toronto, Miami, Houston, Orlando and New Jersey, and had a career average of 10.1 points, 2.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.2 spg.
Known in Rucker Park and other famous playgrounds as “Skip to my Lou,” Alston has great flair to his game. Over his years as a professional, he learned how to separate Alston the NBA player from Skip, the kid in the playground. It’ll be interesting to see footage of how he performs overseas.

Iverson's 'Retirement' Update + Highlights

Turkish Besiktas famous import, Allen Iverson, appears close to end his career in basketball. The former Philadelphia Sixers’ guard injured his left ankle recently and can’t stand the pain anymore. Later today, he will do a press conference to announce that he is going to have surgery in the United States and will be treated here.
“Leaving the basketball world makes me sad but, sometimes, we have to accept things like they are. I can say goodbye to basketball,” he revealed yesterday.
Via Turkish News
Also the highlights from Iverson's recent game in Turkey. He scored 17 points and dished out eight assists in Besiktas' overtime loss against Efes Pilson.
UPDATE:
Allen Iverson may be 35 and in need of having a lesion removed from his right leg that will take 4-6 weeks to rehab, and he might not have any NBA teams interested in him, but his manager, Gary Moore, told the Associated Press that his client isn't planning on hanging it up just yet.
Once the lesion is removed in the United States, Iverson is planning to head back to Turkey to be with his team, Besiktas, for the playoffs, the AP reports.
Iverson "totally disputes" that he is retiring, Moore told the AP. After all, Iverson has another year on the two-year, $4 million deal he signed with the Turkish club in the fall.
"People need to know that Allen is and always has been a fighter," Moore said, according to the AP. "He's got a battle ahead of him."

Okay so he's not retiring. I knew I shouldn't have went ahead with unreliable Turkish news.
LeBron James Having Fun At Cleveland's Expense
The Los Angeles Lakers humiliated the Cleveland Cavaliers while sending them to their 11th straight loss, rolling to a 112-57 victory on Tuesday night in their best defensive performance ever.LeBron reacts to the loss on twitter
Ron Artest and Andrew Bynum each scored 15 points, while Pau Gasol had 13 points and 14 rebounds. Kobe Bryant, Lamar Odom and Shannon Brown(notes) also scored 13 points for the defending NBA champion Lakers, who led the league’s worst team by 32 points at halftime on their way to winning their fifth in a row.
Reserves Alonzo Gee scored 12 points and Ramon Sessions 10. Cleveland’s point total was a record low by a Lakers opponent. The Cavs shot 30 percent and committed 19 turnovers in losing for the 21st time in their last 22 games.

Crazy. Karma is a b****.. Gets you every time. Its not good to wish bad on anybody. God sees everything!

LOL C'mon son. Now that is seriously not cool. But he is really liking his villain role. Clevelanders must be...

Melo Headed to Jersey?
But this trade raises a very important question ... wouldn't Melo be better off staying in Denver? In the proposed deal the 10-27 Nets would have a very aging backcourt in Billups and Hamilton with very little depth upfront. I won't fully analyze the deal until the full details come out but I don't like the deal for New Jersey or Carmelo. The Nets are going all in on a trade which will only make them a middle of the pack team in the Eastern conference.

Trade Idea: Bring 'Em Home
If our conspiracy theories hold any weight (and only Westphal knows if they do), then Dalembert might qualify as the most likely Kings player to be moved.
And depending on how the next month plays out, I could almost see Petrie shipping Dalembert out for another player(s) with an expiring deal(s) who wouldn't play in a good-will type gesture. It would relieve the pressure if he still isn't playing while giving him a better chance to showcase himself to prospective employers.
As chronicled by Ailene Voisin of The Sacramento Bee, Dalembert's agent, Marc Cornstein, was in town on Tuesday to see his free-agent-to-be client and check in with Petrie. But there was no similar spike in playing time, as Dalembert logged 18 minutes in a loss to Atlanta and was so ready for more action afterward that I saw him running on the treadmill in full jersey at the team's practice facility that's across from Arco Arena.
Fan House
Although the Raptors are amongst several teams reported to be interested in forward Omri Casspi, a trade for Dalembert would be more useful with the way the current roster is constructed. Not to mention that any trade involving Casspi crossing the US border would require the Raptors to take on additional contracts such as Garcia or Udrih.
A simple Peja-for-Dalembert swap would be sufficient. Raptors need a shot blocking center up front and the Kings bring back a familiar face while reducing their log jam in the frontcourt.
Thoughts?

Cleveland's Golden Voice
Cavaliers may have done a poor job of surrounding James with better talent but they didn't fuck up this time. Incredible story to start off the new year.

2011 NBA Dunk Contest: Rigged?
Clippers forward Blake Griffin, who has become must-see TV because of his slam dunks, will be in the NBA's slam dunk contest, sources said Tuesday night.
Joining Griffin will be Washington Wizards 7-foot centerJaVale McGee, Oklahoma City Thunder 6-10 forward Serge Ibaka and Milwaukee Bucks 6-1 guard Brandon Jennings, sources said.
LA Times
I'm sure I'm not the only one that had a WTF look when the 2011 NBA Dunk Contest contestants were leaked yesterday. Blake Griffin was going to win regardless, because he is just that good, but did the NBA really have to eliminate the rest of the competition?
Judging from Jennings' high school highlights, he can dunk but he hasn't thrown one down in the NBA. Ibaka and McGee are very good athletes for bigs however they are in-game dunkers, not the type to do well during dunk contest.

Trade Idea: MIN-TOR-NYK-MIA
- Timberwolves possibly shopping Flynn with reports of Rubio giving word that he is infact going to play in the arctic..err...I mean Minnesota. They also like Randolph.
- Raptors being interested in Flynn (see report)
- New York in the market for a backup point guard
- Miami Heat obviously needing a major upgrade at the point
Toronto Raptors trade:
Jose Calderon
Sonny Weems
Joey Dorsey
2011 Miami 1st Round Pick
Toronto Raptors receive:
Jonny Flynn
Joel Anthony
Jamaal Magloire
Why do they do it:
Flynn (Niagara Falls, NY) grew up near the Canadian border and loves Toronto. And the feeling seems to be mutual from Toronto's end as Colangelo liked the speedy point guard during the 2009 NBA Draft.
Short term pain for long term gain but the roster is more balanced. Right now Jose is clearly the better PG between him and Flynn but its clear that the Raptors need speed from that position as the NBA is geared more towards faster point guards.
Weems also gets moved as I don't think he fits on the team anymore becuase it should be to no one's surprise that he is playing for a contract. Plus Kleiza regained the starting SF spot from him. Dorsey is a solid backup player but his role on the court will greatly diminish once the regulars return from their injuries.
Oh and they also pickup two scrubby but hard working Canadians. Montreal product Joel Anthony provides the shot blocking and his defensive skills while Scarborough, Ont. native Magloire brings his wisdom on how to mug opposing players on the court. Works for the Raptors position wise as they always need defense/toughness from that position.
Also I know there are a lot of Magloire haters in Toronto and he is only included for salary reasons. He can be waived so he can return to Miami if need be.
Minnesota Timberwolves trade:
Jonny Flynn
Luke Ridnour
Minnesota Timberwolves receive:
Jose Calderon
Sonny Weems
Anthony Randolph
2011 Miami 1st Round Pick
2011 Minnesota's own 2nd Round Pick
Why do they do it:
Jose Calderon, who should be in contention for the comeback player of the year award, can run Rambis' offense better than the two outgoing Minnesota PG's, but he comes with a hefty price tag. The Spaniard's main value to the Wolves will be next season to help Rubio adjust to the NBA. It also helps the man who brought Jose to the NBA, Rob Babcock, is now the assistant GM to Mr. Kahn.
Sonny is a talented 2-way player and should flourish on a top 10 scoring team as he doesn't have a lot of competition at the SG slot in Minnesota. Recent reports indicate that they are chasing the once promising German Native, Anthony Randolph, hoping that he can capture what made NBA fans drool every time he hit the court.
New York Knicks trade:
Anthony Randolph
New York Knicks receive:
Mario Chalmers
Why do they do it:
Mr. Pringles' rotation is killing Randolph's trade value but this deal nets them a possible rotation player for a guy that is collecting DNP-CD's.
Miami Heat trade:
Mario Chalmers
Joel Anthony
Jamaal Magloire
2011 Minnesota's own 2nd Round Pick
Miami Heat receive:
Luke Ridnour
Joey Dorsey
Why do they do it:
While their center position is bad, their PG position is their weakest. Big Z and Dampier can hold down the fort defensively against big centers but the likes of Arroyo and Chalmers won't cut it at the point because they are not consistant knock down shooters. Enter Luke Ridnour.
The veteran point guard is playing very well this season and provides Miami with a shooter when they play a traditional lineup. Joel Anthony is a defensive menace but his 15 minute role can be replaced by Joey Dorsey and a D-Leaguer like Sean Williams.
